Racing:This afternoon's race meetings at Ayr and Plumpton have both passed morning inspections and go ahead as planned.
Although the Scottish course has been hit with 33 millimetres of rain in the last 24 hours, clerk of the course Katherine Self was able to give the seven-race card, which begins at 12.20pm, the go-ahead.
"We've omitted two fences on the chase course but racing is on," she said. "We've had a lot of rain but the course has stood up to it well and we are heavy, soft in places."
It was a similar story at Plumpton.
The East Sussex venue has withstood 12 millimetres of rain since 4pm yesterday but is fit for racing, which begins at 12.40pm.
"We've had quite a bit of rain but it's very fresh and that has helped," explained clerk of the course Mark Cornford. "Just to be on the safe side though, we've taken out the last flight of hurdles.
"The going is heavy but we are looking forward to a good day of racing."
