British Airways has opened an investigation after one of its Concordes lost part of its rudder while on a flight from London to New York the airline announced.
The incident happened last Wednesday.
The pilots felt a vibration in the plane, which persisted as the aircraft was on approach to JFK airport from London, but were able to land it without incident, a spokesman said.
None of the 96 passengers or nine crew members were injured as a result of the incident, the airline said.
But an inspection of the plane afterwards showed that part of the rudder was missing and somehow flew off during the flight.
In July 2000, an Air France Concorde crashed on takeoff from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport, killing all 109 people on board and four on the ground, in the first fatal accident involving the airliner.
