The Mid Western Health Board yesterday confirmed that a baby had died on Monday morning from suspected meningococcal meningitis at the Regional Hospital, Limerick.
A board spokesman said it was not in a position to give any particulars concerning the child or its home. Dr Rose Fitzgerald, of the board's department of public health, said there was no major risk to the public, patients who attended the hospital or to staff.
