A 10-month old baby was recovering in hospital with a broken leg yesterday after a hit-and-run incident in Co Limerick.
The baby girl was thrown from her pram when a car, which failed to stop, struck the double buggy which was also carrying the baby's two-and-a-half-year-old brother.
The infant's mother was out walking with her children at around 6.30pm on Sunday at Ballintubber on the main road between Ballylanders and Kilfinane in Co Limerick, when the collision occurred.
The young mother was extremely traumatised after the incident and was at her baby girl's bedside in Croom Orthopaedic Hospital in Co Limerick, yesterday.
The woman and her other child were not injured in the incident. The gardaí were contacted shortly afterwards and a full investigation was launched.
Following an appeal for information by Supt Jim Browne yesterday the car involved in the incident was recovered in the Kilfinane area and a man in his 20s was helping gardaí with their inquiries yesterday.
"We received a massive response from the public and the car was recovered at around lunchtime and a man is helping us with our investigation," said Supt Browne.
"This was a very serious incident in which a 10-month-old baby suffered a broken leg after being thrown from her buggy. It is a miracle that the injuries were not more serious," Supt Browne added.
