The proposed Personal Injuries Assessment Board, combined with the reform of the legal system, will reduce insurance costs, Ms Dorothea Dowling insisted yesterday.
The chairwoman of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board and author of a report on the motor insurance industry was responding to the publication in The Irish Times yesterday of a report from economist Dr Peter Bacon on the proposed new board, which had been commissioned by the Bar Council.
She said the intention was to take uncontested cases out of the legal system and to increase the efficiency of the courts in dealing with the more complex cases.
