A member of the Criminal Assets Bureau told the High Court yesterday he had confidential information regarding the status of a bail bond posted on behalf of Dublin businessman Mr Peter Bolger which, if revealed, would endanger the life of an informant. The Garda detective sergeant told Mr Justice O'Higgins he had evidence that a £50,000 cash "independent surety" lodged by Mr Padraig Dolan was beneficially owned by Mr Bolger, of Glendown Lawns, Templeogue, who has been charged by the Criminal Assets Bureau on 12 counts of failing to deliver tax returns or statements of his business affairs since 1991.

Mr Justice O'Higgins reduced the £50,000 independent surety to two independent sureties of £7,500 each and directed that Mr Dolan be not considered as a suitable surety.
