Bail for man charged with murder of wife

A Dublin man charged with murdering his wife in Balbriggan last month was granted bail today by the High Court.

A Dublin man charged with murdering his wife in Balbriggan last month was granted bail today by the High Court.

Colin Whelan, (29), with an address at 49 Clonard Street in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, was charged in Swords District Court this morning with the murder of his wife, Ms Mary Whelan (27), at their home on March 2nd this year.

He was granted bail at a special High Court sitting at Cloverhill Prison in Clondalkin, Co Dublin, on his own bond of £3,000 and an independent surety of £9,900.

He must report to Balbriggan Garda Station twice a week and surrender his passport. The body of Ms Whelan was found at the bottom of the stairs in the couple's Dublin home.
