A man arrested as part of the Stevens inquiry into the murder of Belfast solicitor Mr Pat Finucane was released on bail yesterday.

Mr Mark Barr (30), of Silvio Street, in the Shankill area of Belfast, faced three charges of possessing the names and photo-montages of suspected IRA men.

A DPP lawyer told the High Court in Belfast the charges were linked to the discovery of a large amount of documentation in the Shankill area in 1989 which resulted in the original Stevens inquiry securing convictions against 43 men who received prison sentences.

"Barr's fingerprints were on 10 of the documents, including an army computer print-out," said the lawyer.

Counsel for Mr Barr, Mr Peter Irvine, said there was no suggestion the documents were used to carry out any illegal activity in respect of the individuals named in them.

Lord Justice Campbell freed Mr Barr on his own bail of £250 with two sureties of £500 each and ordered him to report to the RUC three times a week.
