The High Court in Belfast was told yesterday that police believe a Larne man facing other charges was the gunman who killed a man in July. Mr Andrew Cairns (22), a UVF man, was shot at a bonfire in Larne. Mr Gary Mervyn Robb (28) faces charges of having explosives and a document of use to terrorists.

During a bail application yesterday an RUC sergeant told Lord Justice Campbell police believed Mr Robb was the gunman and that his life would be at risk if he was given bail. He said it was understood Mr Robb was being sought by the UVF and the UDA.

Refusing the bail application the judge said he had to take Mr Robb's safety into account.
