FOUR English people appeared before Dublin District Court yesterday charged with possession of an estimated £500,000 worth of heroin.
Mr Fergus Duffy (30), with an address at Gracepark Heights, Drumcondra, Dublin Ms Eithne Coyne snr (40), of Hogan Way, Hackney; Ms Eithne Coyne jnr (24), of Amhurst Road, Hackney; and Mr John Wansley (27), of Smalley Close, Hackney, London, were remanded in custody.
Mr Wansley and the Coynes are charged with importation of the heroin at Dublin port on February 5th.
Mr Duffy is charged with being in possession of the drugs at Phoenix Court, Dublin, on the same date.
In court yesterday, Det Garda Angela Willis objected to an application for bail made by Mr Duffy's solicitor, Ms Yvonne Bambury, who asked that an independent surety be fixed.
Garda Willis said the heroin involved was estimated to be worth about £500,000 and that Mr Duffy admitted to her he had "jumped bail" before. She said he had lived in Ireland for only eight months.
Similar objections were made to a bail application made on behalf of Mr Wansley. There was no application for bail from the Coynes solicitor.
Judge John O'Neill refused to grant bail and remanded all four in custody until February 21st next.
