An unemployed man facing a larceny charge was refused bail at Galway District Court yesterday after the judge heard he had previously failed to appear on another charge. Mr Jimmy McCarthy (21), of Hillside Park, Galway, is charged with stealing £110 at Eglinton Street on January 18th.

Insp Pat Forde objected to bail as Mr McCarthy had failed to turn up in court in January 1993 on a charge which was subsequently dealt with. Judge Al O'Dea remanded Mr McCarthy to Mountjoy Prison to appear at Galway District Court on February 7th.
