Gaelic Games:Former Clare All-Ireland winner Ollie Baker was tonight appointed as Offaly hurling manager for next season, taking over from Joe Dooley, who resigned from the post at the end of June.

Baker, who won All-Ireland titles in 1995 and 1997 with the Banner County, works as a Garda sergeant in Tullamore and has previous inter-county experience as a selector and trainer during Mike McNamara’s time with Clare.

Baker will be assisted by fellow Clareman Alan Cunningham, who will act as coach, and he will name his selectors in the coming days.

His appointment will be formally ratified at next month’s Offaly County Board meeting.
