The hottest day of the year was Sunday, June 18th when a temperature of 27.6 degrees was recorded at Casement Aerodrome at Baldonnel in Co Dublin.
This was also the day that the Air Show Spectacular was held at Baldonnel and thousands of families basked in the sun as they watched the display.
June 18th was hot throughout the country. Mullingar, Co Westmeath recorded a temperature of 26.3 degrees; Birr, Co Offaly hit 25.9 degrees; Dublin Airport had 25.7 degrees and Clones, Co Monaghan reached 25.5 degrees.
The wettest place of the year on any one day was the Phoenix Park in Dublin, which received 76.2 mm of rain on November 5th. This surpassed the next wettest by almost 30 mm, when 48.5 mm were recorded at the Valentia Observatory, in Co Kerry. Valentia was also the wettest place in the State with a rainfall 23 per cent above average.
Although Valentia was the wettest place, Belmullet had the longest period of daily rainfall this year. At least 2 mm of rain - and often a lot more - was experienced every day from October 15th to December 17th.
