Rally of the Lakes
In Killarney: Up to 100,000 spectators are expected to converge on the town. Dozens of extra gardaí and "every available vehicle within the division" were being drafted into Killarney yesterday for the busiest weekend of the year in the town, said Sgt Ray Walsh.
Heineken Green Energy Festival
The three-day festival kicks off the summer's outdoor concert season today at Dublin Castle. Acts include Snow Patrol, Ian Brown, Republic of Loose and Kaiser Chiefs.
Bray Jazz Festival
Now in its seventh year, the programme includes more than 30 concerts and recitals. Musicians from Ireland, the United States, France, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Congo and Holland are taking part.
Vogler Spring Festival
In St Columba's Church, Drumcliffe, Co Sligo, soprano Ailish Tynan will perform tomorrow with violinist Catherine Leonard, cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson and pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov.
Opera
Opera Ireland's production of Charles Gounoud's Faust will be shown on the big screen in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar tomorrow at 8:30pm. The screening is free of charge, but seating will be limited.
Strokestown Poetry Festival
Wordsmiths and readers alike are invited to the event in Strokestown, Co Roscommon, which continues until Monday. Poets will be competing for substantial cash prizes. Details on scheduled readings can be viewed at www.strokestownpoetryprize.com
Art exhibition
Limerick artist Tom Fitzgerald will present an examination of contemporary Ireland in his solo exhibition at Ashford Gallery, Royal Hibernian Academy, 15 Ely Place, Dublin 2.
