Permament Tsb is to repay an average of €400 to mortgage customers it overcharged over the last three years according to reports.

A report in today's edition of the Sunday Business Post says the bank will send letters to 1,500 customers over the next couple of weeks to repay €600,000 after charging the wrong rate for three years.

The bank, the report says, has confirmed it had overcharged the customers as it had 'unwittingly' applied the wrong interest rates on their mortgages.

The latest report of alleged overcharging comes only days after  the AIB, Ireland's biggest bank, was criticised by the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority (IFSRA) for "deliberately hiding" the fact that it had overcharged thousands of customers more than €30 million for almost eight years.
