SIPTU has served strike notice on the Bank of Ireland on behalf of 400 porters, drivers, cleaners, computer sorters and security staff. The strike is due to begin on April 15th, although intensive talks are expected in the meantime.
The dispute is about improvements in the pension scheme. The bank has agreed to allow SIPTU members into the scheme for bank officials, but refused to backdate pension entitlements.
SIPTU members have traditionally had a lower, non-contributory pension scheme, and the bank is concerned that retrospection could lead to claims from other employees.
