Olympic bronze medallist and European champion Paddy Barnes was made to work hard for a 4-2 win over Scotland’s Iain Butcher at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi today.
The Belfast light flyweight pronounced himself far from happy with his opening performance.
“It was a tough fight and he made it hard for me but it was all about getting the fight out of my system,” admitted Barnes. “I need to improve if I’m going to take gold but that’s what I’m aiming for.”
Barnes’s quarter-final bout takes place on Saturday.
