Tennis:Irish tennis continues to run on a high with news that Ireland's Sam Barry followed up his first round success with another win in the boys doubles section of the Junior Australian Open.
The Limerick player teamed up with New Zealand’s Ben McLachlan to defeat the Kiwi pair of Barrett Franks and Jaden Grinter 6-3 6-3 in the first round in Melbourne.
The unseeded pair of Barry and McLachlan will face number four seeds, Chinese Taipai’s Liang-Chi Huang and Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama, in the next round.
Barry became the first Irish player to win at junior individual level when he defeated Russia’s Victor Baluda in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 6-3) to set up a second round clash with Britain’s Oliver Golding.
There was disappointment for Dublin’s John Morrissey and Poland’s Bartosz Sawicki in today's doubles as they lost 3-6 4-6 to Latvia’s Arturs Kazijievs and Mikelis Libietis.
Elsewhere organisers of this week’s ATP Challenger Tour event in Heilbronn, Germany have issued Ireland’s Louk Sorensen a wild card entry into the main draw after he reached the second round of the main draw at the Australia Open.
Stuttgart-based Sorensen and Germany’s Nils Langer and Cedric-Marcel Stebe received the three wild cards into the 32-player field.
In tomorrow’s first round Sorensen faces Switzerland’s Stephane Bohli, who is ranked 149th in the world.
