The Irish Basketball Association (IBA) have joined the line of sporting bodies intent on staging fixtures this weekend despite yesterday’s confirmed case of foot-and-mouth in Co Louth.

In consultation with the Department of Agriculture, the IBA was advised that this weekend’s schedule could go ahead as planned.

The Women’s Division 1 league playoffs title and the Women’s League National Championships will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Limerick.

Waterford club Baush & Lomb Wildcats were presented with the 2001 ESB Women's League trophy - their sixth in seven years - at a reception on Wednesday night.

The Irish Colleges Inter-Varsity competition, originally scheduled for the beginning of the month, has yet to be rescheduled and has an April 7th deadline for completion.

The Department of Agriculture will continue to monitor the situation and may reintroduce stricter measures to combat foot-and-mouth should it deem them necessary.
