Madrid - An explosion ripped through a popular discotheque in Spain's Basque region yesterday, the latest bombing blamed on the separatist group ETA in its escalating campaign for independence.
A caller claiming to represent ETA alerted the Red Cross minutes before the blast near the town of Deba, about 40 kms west of the port city of San Sebastian. The nightclub, owned by the brother of Jose Maria Korta, a Basque industrialist and outspoken critic of ETA who was killed on August 8th in nearby Zumaia, was closed at the time and there were no casualties, officials said.
