Ghanaian international Samuel Kuffour scrambled in an extra-time winner as German and European champions Bayern Munich beat Argentina's 10-man Boca Juniors 1-0 to win the World Club Cup in Tokyo today.
Kuffour pounced from point-blank range after Boca's defence had failed to clear a corner from substitute Ciriaco Sforza in the 20th minute of extra time to settle an ill-tempered match at Tokyo's National Stadium.
Bayern missed a number of opportunities to capitalise on their numerical advantage in the second half after Boca striker Marcelo Delgado was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for diving in first-half stoppage time.
Boca, last year's World Club Cup winners, wasted a clear-cut chance to open the scoring in the 30th minute when Guillermo Schelotto dispossessed Kuffour and fed Delgado, who contrived to miss his kick with just Kahn to beat from eight yards. -Reuters
