London - The loss-making international cable and satellite news channel, BBC World, is being saved by a revamp which will cost 50 jobs, the BBC announced yesterday. From next April, BBC World will be based on half-hour news bulletins and will include more global business news.
It had been feared yesterday's review would spell the end for BBC World, which lost £15.6 million last year. International figures from the NATO spokesman, Dr Jamie Shea, to the Albanian Prime Minister, as well as the BBC's own Kate Adie, offered their support to a staff campaign to preserve it.
