David Beckham will be in plaster for up to eight weeks following confirmation that he fractured the scaphoid on his right hand during England's 2-1 win over South Africa in Durban last night.

Beckham suffered the injury after landing awkwardly under a hefty first-half challenge from Thabang Molefe and though he played on, the 28-year-old was clearly in considerable pain and was eventually rushed to hospital after being substituted five minutes into the second-half.

He landed back at Luton this afternoon and will make his way to Manchester where he will be assessed by United's medical staff.
