Brian Magee's gamble to go for world title glory in only his 14th professional fight paid off in spectacular fashion at the Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool tonight.
The IBO super-middleweight belt may not be among the more prestigious of honours, but the 26-year-old from Belfast can be justifiably proud of a first-round win over Argentinian tough guy Ramon Britez.
Britez, 10 years Magee's senior and vastly more experienced, had claimed the title when stopping Islington's Adrian Dodson in three rounds back in April.
But Magee was in no mood for another upset and had his opponent down three times before referee Paul Connor counted the champion out.
