Car criminals have produced their own video and are selling it on the streets of Belfast, it emerged last night.

The graphic, half-hour film of joyriders racing around the west of the city, is on sale for £2 on video or £5 on DVD.

It shows gangs of car thieves as young as 13, driving at high speed, doing handbrake turns, watched by groups of younger children in the Grosvenor Road area.

The home-made movie came to light a few weeks ago when community workers from the area were given copies. It is believed the video, which was shot from a house and also in the back of a stolen car, was made just after Christmas.

Community worker Sean Osborne said he was approached by a parent who overheard his child talking about the tape.

"We have children here as young as eight years of age. You can see large numbers of people on the street," he added.

The tape is filmed in the Albert Street and Servia Street areas, a popular haunt for car thieves.

Resident Margaret Hughes was horrified to see her house featured on it. "That makes me sick to my stomach to watch it," she added.

Another woman said she was forced to wear ear plugs at night to drown out the screeches of car tyres.
