A Belfast man wanted for questioning about the disappearance of a drug-dealer in the Republic is challenging the validity of an extradition warrant.

A lawyer told a Divisional Court in Belfast yesterday that the warrant should never have been issued because the alleged offence was political and therefore outside the scope of the extradition treaty.

Patrick McCrory (43), of Mountpottinger Road, Belfast, is the man the Garda want to question about the disappearance of Mr Charles Pickard (43) in Kerry in 1991.

Mr Pickard was abducted by an armed and masked gang close to his home near Sneem. He had moved to the Republic after being jailed for drug offences in England and the Garda believed he was involved in drug-smuggling when he disappeared.
