Police in north Belfast have begun a murder investigation after finding the body of a woman in the boot of a car early this morning.
A spokesman said the car was stopped and searched after reports of suspicious activity in the Skegoneil Avenue area just after 1.30 a.m.
"Officers responded immediately and set up a number of checkpoints in the area," the spokeswoman said. "Just after 1.50 a.m. they stopped a Ford Escort car on the Antrim Road and discovered the woman's body."
Two men in the car were arrested. An area between the Somerton Road and Queen Victoria Gardens has been sealed off and a post mortem was taking place.
The spokeswoman said later the woman's body had been removed from the scene but had not yet been identified. The woman is believed to be Asian, as are the two men arrested.
