Six police officers were injured overnight in sectarian rioting at a flashpoint in east Belfast.

Six police officers were injured overnight in sectarian rioting at a flashpoint in east Belfast.

A spokesman said today the officers were hit by various missiles including

fireworks, bricks, bottles, nuts and bolts, as they tried to keep rival factions apart close to the nationalist Clandeboye Gardens and the loyalist Cluan Place last night.

He added: "Police at the scene also recovered a 7ft length of wood studied with nails from the area of Clandeboye Gardens."
