More than 200 rail passengers were evacuated today when the Belfast to Dublin service caught fire.
Flames and thick smoke were spotted pouring from the engine of the 8 a.m. Enterprise Service close to Lurgan, Co Armagh.
No-one was injured and rail operator Translink insisted the fire was extinguished by an on-board protection system.
But some of those on the train claimed a major blaze broken out, with fire crews brought in to tackle the flames.
One man said: "We stopped at Lurgan and began to smell smoke quite strongly at the back of the train.
"The back two carriages were evacuated and when we looked out there was quite a lot of smoke and fire coming from the back of the train."
A Translink spokeswoman said all 208 passengers on board were evacuated safely and bussed to Portadown where they were put onto a later Enterprise service to Dublin.
"The fire was localised to the engine itself and did not spread," she added.
"The cause is being investigated and the line has been closed between Lurgan and Portadown. We expect delays of around half an hour."
