Sixteen members of the travelling community had bench warrants issued for their arrest after they failed to turn up in New Ross Court today arising out of a series of disturbances in Wexford town and the local General Hospital on Sunday.

Just two of the 18 people charged by gardai were in court yesterday to face the charges which were laid before Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla.

Among those who did appear were Mr Michael Slattery (37), of 8 Ballywilliam, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick. He has been ordered to reappear in court on June 21st, charged with refusing to leave the Centenary Stores Night Club in Charlotte Street, Wexford, when requested by gardai.

He was also charged with threatenting, abusive and insulting behaviour, as well as a breach of the peace at Charlotte Street on June 4th.
