Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right party has reacted furiously to reports that the former prime minister was the subject of a new corruption probe. Prosecutors were accused of trying to undermine Mr Berlusconi’s efforts to negotiate a way out of Italy’s political deadlock following inconclusive election.
Italian media reported yesterday that prosecutors in Naples had summoned Mr Berlusconi for questioning next week in their investigation into an alleged €2 million bribe paid to a senator, Sergio De Gregorio, to switch his support in 2006 from the then centre-left government to the centre-right. – (Copyright The Financial Times Ltd)
