London - The Pro-Life Alliance group yesterday failed in its attempt to stop the operation separating conjoined twins, Jodie and Mary, from going ahead, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Dismissing the second of two appeals in the Appeal Court in London, Lord Justice Ward and Lord Justice Robert Walker said there was "no reasonable prospect of success" in the case.

The High Court had earlier dismissed a similar attempt to prevent the operation to separate the twins from going ahead. The High Court rejected an application to have the Official Solicitor, Mr Laurence Oates, removed as Mary's guardian and replaced with the group's director, Mr Bruno Quintaville, and to bring an appeal to the House of Lords. The operation to separate the twins is expected to take place at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester next week.
