Big three set for Dewhurst showdown

Racing: The big clash is on

Racing:The big clash is on. Frankel, Dream Ahead and Saamidd have all been declared for Saturday's Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

Not surprisingly with three such high-class colts taking each other on, the supporting cast is relatively thin on the ground, with a field of just six runners set to go to post.

Frankel has garnered a massive reputation in his three races to date and his usually reticent trainer Henry Cecil has described him as his best two-year-old for more than 30 years.

David Simcock's Dream Ahead, on the other hand, has already won two Group Ones and will be the form student's pick.

Godolphin's Saamidd is nicknamed Pegasus in the yard such is the way he works at home and his victory in the Champagne Stakes was all promise.

Aidan O'Brien has narrowed his team down to just one, with Curragh maiden winner Roderic O'Connor the Ballydoyle handler's sole representative.

Glor Na Mara represents Jim Bolger - who has such a good recent record in the race - but this colt is still a maiden, despite running respectably in a host of Group races this season.

Completing the field is Brian Meehan's Acomb winner Waiter's Dream, no match for Saamidd at Doncaster.

The most notable absentee is Ed Dunlop's Native Khan, who will now wait for the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

"I have had a long chat with the owners, and we have decided to opt out of what looks a very strong Dewhurst," said Dunlop.

"They say never be afraid of one horse, but it seems that there are three to be wary of in Saturday's race, and, with the weather forecast for Doncaster next week being favourable, we will sit tight and wait for Town Moor.

"The horse worked very well for Kieren Fallon on Tuesday morning and I am very happy with him, and stepping up to a mile will not be a problem."
