A meeting between union representatives and management at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown council has begun aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute over bin collections.
The meeting is being held under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).
Yesterday, Union representatives in the four Dublin local authorities said they had arranged to extend to dispute if talks to resolve the row about outsourcing to private waste collectors are unsuccessful.
Siptu is insisting that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown management recommits to the Waste Management Plan agreed by the four Dublin local authorities. It is also asking the managers of the three other Dublin authorities to give similar commitments.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown has deferred signing contracts with a private contractor while the talks are ongoing.
About 40 Siptu shop stewards met at Liberty Hall earlier this week to consider their options.
Details were not revealed, but options are understood to include protest marches and extending the ballot on industrial action to other sectors in the council to seek their support. Waste collection workers in all four local authorities have balloted for such action following a decision by the council to outsource the service.
