The Right Rev Dr Richard Henderson, former dean of Ross, was consecrated Bishop of Tuam at a ceremony in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, yesterday. Bishop Henderson (40) takes up office at a time when a review of church boundaries is in progress. He succeeds Bishop John Neill, who has moved to Cashel.

The consecration was attended by the Catholic Archbishop of Tuam, the Most Rev Dr Michael Neary, and the Mayor of Armagh, Cllr Pat Brannigan, and the Mayoress, Mrs Molly Brannigan.

The Church of Ireland Primate, Archbishop Robin Eames, conducted the service. The diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, while in the Republic, is in the Church of Ireland's ancient Northern province.

A close friend of Bishop Henderson, Canon Michael Burrows, rector of Bandon, gave the address.
