Thomas Bjorn decided to get in on the act and take a share of the lead with Colin Montgomerie in the second round of the Murphy’s Irish Open this morning.
In slightly breezy conditions around the Fota Island course Montgomerie made a sluggish start with some very ordinary numbers on the opening holes.
He parred the 10th and 11th, his first and second, but bogeyed the 428 yard par four 12th to drop back to seven under where he is joined by Bjorn.
The Dane opened with a bogey on the 10th, his first, but he immediately rectified the situation with birdies at the 168 yard par three 11th and the par four 12th and picked up another at the 15th.
Ireland’s Eamonn Darcy and Sweden’s Fredrik Henge still share second on six under and don’t get under way until after lunch.
In the meantime, the pair have been joined by Scotland’s Dean Robertson and Anthony Wall from England.
Wall reached the eighth in two under after picking up birdies at the fifth and sixth. Robertson made his advance with birdies at the fourth and fifth as four share second.
