A memorial sculpture to the victims of the Bloody Sunday killings was vandalised in Derry over the weekend, less than a week after the publication of the Saville report.
Artist Brian McGee said the sculpture, at the Gasyard complex in the Bogside area of the city, had almost been completed when it was attacked.
“Many of the bricks in the sculpture have been smashed so we will have to start from scratch. We cannot let these people succeed”, he said.
Bogside community worker Declan McLaughlin said it was well known in the area who was responsible for the vandalism. “There is a very small group of youths who are basically out of control.”
