Toronto guitar virtuoso Jeff Healy has been put through the blues versus rock grinder and come out the other end relatively unscarred. A serious jazz and blues buff (his collection of vintage 78s runs into tens of thousands) it has been said of Healy, blind from eye cancer since the age of one, that he's more of a rock guitarist who can play the blues rather than a bona fide blues guitarist. Healy has a trademark, distinctive style of guitar playing: holding his guitar flat on his lap he frets the guitar from above as a pianist might, allowing him to span wider intervals. Jeff Healy and his band play Dublin's Olympia theatre tomorrow.
