London - The chief executive of British Nuclear Fuels has resigned after a safety scandal at the company's Sellafield reprocessing plant, it was reported today.

Mr John Taylor, who will depart with an expected pay-off of about £300,000, stepped down over a highly critical report by safety watchdogs into falsifying safety data at the Cumbria plant, the London Independent reported. Last week the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate accused the company of "systematic management failures".
