Celtic winger Bobby Petta tonight signed a lucrative three-year extension to his current contract.

The Dutch star has had a frustrating time this season with injuries, but manager Martin O'Neill was keen to tie him down to a longer-term deal.

Petta, who was signed by John Barnes from Ipswich in 1999, will now remain at Parkhead until at least May 2005.

Petta is delighted to put the contract talks behind him so he can concentrate on recovering from a hamstring injury.

"I'm delighted and it's great that everything has been sorted out," he said.

"It has been a difficult season in terms of injuries but that is part of football and part of the job.

"The timing of injuries is never right but you just have to get on with it. I'm glad that the deal is all sorted out and I can focus on getting back to 100 per cent fitness.

"At the minute I have a little bit of a calf problem, but I should hopefully be back playing soon."
