The bodies of two men found dead in tragic circumstances in Co Monaghan this morning have been removed to Cavan hospital where post mortem examinations will take place this evening.
They have been named locally as Darren Lavery (22) and Jonathan McKenna (21).
Local gardaí confirmed the Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, had been to the scene where the bodies were discovered in the early hours of this morning.
A Garda Technical Bureau team is also finishing its work at the scene at the house in the village of Emyvale this evening.
It is understood gardaí received a call at around 3.30 a.m. and discovered the bodies of the men at the house in the village a short time later.
One garda said the two men were well known locally and that the deaths were a tragedy for their families. The men were not related but lived near each other. It is understood the bodies were found by a family member of one of the men.
It has not yet been established exactly how the men died, but a legally held firearm was found at the scene. The bodies were found at the rear of the house.
The Garda Technical Bureau was concluding an examination of the scene this evening.
A local garda said everyone in the small village was shocked by the news. He confirmed no one else is being sought by gardaí in connection with the deaths.
