Police are hoping the results of a postmortem examination of a body found in a burnt-out car near Belfast will give them an important lead.
The discovery was made at Cavehill Country Park, which overlooks the north of the city, at about 6am yesterday. The body is thought to that of a man, but this has not been confirmed.
A critically injured man was found close to the scene of the car. He is in intensive care at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and detectives are waiting to question him.
The country park was closed yesterday as a forensic examination was carried out.
Local representatives called on the public to help police with their investigation. Nigel Dodds, the area's DUP MP, said anyone with information should come forward.
SDLP Assembly member Alban Maginness said: "This is a shocking and disturbing discovery. One person has died and another remains critically ill in hospital. While information on what exactly happened is still vague, we should all hope that the person who remains in hospital pulls through. That person's recovery may hold the key to uncovering what exactly happened."
