A Garda investigation has begun after the discovery of a body of a young man on a beach at Dunfanaghy in north-west Donegal early yesterday morning.
The body was spotted close to the golf course by people jogging on the beach. It was removed to Letterkenny General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was being carried out last night.
A Garda spokesman said that initial examinations indicated that the man had died within the previous 24 hours.
He said gardaí were keeping an open mind on the incident. The identity of the 24-year-old man had not been released by yesterday evening, but it is understood that he was from west Donegal. His name is expected to be released today.
The Garda spokesman said that no reports had been received of anyone missing in the area, but they had established his identity.
Meanwhile, foul play is not suspected following the discovery of the body of a 29-year-old man at Convoy early yesterday.
These latest deaths bring to four the number of young people from Donegal who have died in the past seven days.
The body of a 26-year-old man was recovered from the sea near Bunbeg last week, while a 23- year-old Donegal woman was found dead in a house in Sligo last Wednesday.
The man had been reported missing for several days, while the young woman, who was from Glenties, had spoken to her family a short time before she died.
Foul play has been ruled out in both instances.
