A BODY that was washed up on an English beach over 10 years ago has now been identified as Dublin man John Crawford, who went missing from his home in Tallaght in 2000, writes Pamela Duncan.
The body was discovered in December of the same year on Annaside Beach, near the town of Bootle in Cumbria in the northwest of England.
Attempts to identify the body were unsuccessful until last autumn. Then the Garda obtained the personal belongings of Mr Crawford, who went missing at the age of 28. A potential match was then identified with a DNA sample on file which had been taken from the body.
The Cumbria Constabulary was informed and DNA identification confirmed.
