London - A rundown pit village street where the body of a young child, believed to be missing Laura Kane (9), was discovered, last night was filled with flowers and toys as shocked residents publicly displayed their grief.
Families in the County Durham village of Murton were still struggling to accept that such a thing could happen in their community.
A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the disappearance of Laura, who vanished from her home in Penshaw Village, on the outskirts of Sunderland, 10 days ago.
Northumbria Police were last night refusing to name the suspect or identify the body.
