The body of a Dublin-born soldier serving with British forces in Iraq has arrived in Britain.
Lance Corporal Ian Malone died in combat in Basra on Sunday April 6th when the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards came under sniper fire while trying to secure a vital gateway to the city.
The bodies of Lce Corp Malone and six British servicemen killed in the Iraq conflict arrived at the Oxfordshire air base of RAF Brize Norton thismorning.
Originally from Ballyfermot, Lce Corp Malone (28) featured on the RTÉ television series True Lives, in which he explained his reasons for serving in the British army, saying Irishmen had died in the past "to give men like me the freedom to choose what to do".
The return of the seven bodies today brings the number of killed servicemen repatriated to 28, leaving two of the 30 British fatalities still to be brought home.
The bodies of 11 British servicemen arrived at the base last week. Ten British war dead were brought home the week before.
