The discovery was made in Clontarf shortly before 2.30pm this afternoon.

The scene at Seafield Road East has been sealed off ahead of a preliminary post mortem examination by the State Pathologist's office.

A further full examination is expected to be carried out in the morning if necessary. Forensic experts from the Garda Technical Bureau have also been called to scrutinise the scene.

A Garda spokesman was unable to say tonight whether there had been any sign of a disturbance or break in at the apartment or how officers were alerted to the body.

It is expected that the results of the post mortem examination and forensic tests will determine the course of the garda investigation.
