THE BODY of a man missing since early on Friday morning when he went out on his kayak on a lake near Dingle Bay has been recovered.
It was found yesterday not far from where his boat and paddle were found on Friday morning.
Nealie (Neilus) O’Connor (38) lived in Cromane, Co Kerry, with his partner and two-month-old daughter. He had set out in his kayak on the lake at 3am on Friday. The alarm was raised at 8am when he had failed to return.
A large-scale search co-ordinated by Garda Insp Fearghal Patwell of Killorglin and assisted by the Valentia Coast Guard had been under way over the past 4½ days.
Sonar imagery of the lake by the Mallow river rescue unit was key to the recovery shortly after 3.15pm yesterday, just 40 yards from the eastern shore where his kayak was discovered, the Garda said.
Mr O’Connor’s body was taken to Kerry General Hospital.
