A body has been recovered by rescue teams searching for a man believed to have fallen overboard from his boat off the Antrim coast
A search operation was launched after a rib was spotted drifting between Ballycastle and Rathlin Island yesterday afternoon.
The alarm was raised at about 4.45pm by the crew of a ferry.
The body was recovered at 6.30pm and taken to Ballycastle, where it was handed over to the coroner’s office.
Rob Steventon, watch manager of Belfast Coastguard, said it is believed the man may have fallen overboard after a
rope became tangled in his boat's propeller.
The man, said to have been in his 60s, was well known in the area and had organised fishing trips around the popular tourist spot.
Coastguard rescue officers from Ballycastle and Portrush, RNLI crews from Portrush and Redbay and a rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet were involved in the operation.
