Undertakers have provided a 19th century horse-drawn hearse for the funeral of a prominent member of the Travelling community in Co Mayo today.

Mr Martin Anthony McDonagh, a father of nine, died in a recent stabbing incident in Britain, and his remains were flown to Knock Airport, Co Mayo, yesterday evening.

Mr McDonagh is a son of the late Thomas McDonagh of Ballyhaunis, a local "King of the Travellers" who died last year - and whose remains were also borne in a 19th century horse-drawn hearse.

More than 150 members of the Travelling community witnessed the arrival of the remains of Mr Martin McDonagh at Knock Airport last night.
